I do not like having to make choices. When I am presented with two options for anything, I often defer to whomever I am with. Chinese or pizza? Splash or Rush? Paper or plastic? Bank robbery or casino heist? Don't ask me, I'll be cool with either.Needless to say, when I am FORCED to make a choice, it overwhelms me beyond description. And right now, I am being forced to make a choice. Okay, well, not RIGHT now. But soon. In March of 2010, my Verizon agreement is expiring. Until recently, I thought I had my plan set: I would abandon Verizon and pick up an iPhone.
That seemed easy enough. I wanted the apps. Man, it really is all about the apps. Over a hundred thousand of them.
But then I heard about the AT&T service woes. The 3G network is the pits. It takes hours to load anything on the browser. Boyfriend Joe drops one out of every two calls he takes or makes. AT&T has shitty service, and that made me reconsider.
And then Verizon released the Blackberry Storm... a supposed iPhone killer. Too bad it wasn't. And so I was back to deciding that I would sacrifice good service for an app phone.
But then Verizon came out with the Droid. I went to the Verizon store and took it for a spin. It seemed awesome! But then I heard about small amount of memory for apps. Substandard apps. An annoying browser. And now I am torn again.
Do I go to AT&T's shitty service to get an iPhone? Do I re-up with Verizon and get a Droid? Sure people say iPhone is coming to Verizon, but yesterday an article hinted that T-Mobile may in fact be the next carrier to get Apple's telephonic gem. WHYYYYYY?
If Verizon would just come out with a fucking iPhone, I would get it. Plain and simple. Of course life isn't easy and I must face such horrendous decisions.
Luckily I have until March to make up my mind, as that is when my contract expires. Maybe by then, Verizon will announce an iPhone. Maybe I'll be that lucky.
At least I hope so.
as a droid user... i can say that sure the memory can be slightly annoying, but its EASILY and CHEAPLY upgradable by getting a larger card to put in... and it already comes with 16GB, which is a lot of space... the aps aren't THAT bad if you do some hunting for the cooler ones, and you know that with time they'll only get better once people have a chance to make better ones for them... when the iphone first appeared the aps weren't great either... and hey, can you really beat verizon's service in the city? i'd take having to wait for more exciting aps without dropping calls and always having service for texting and 3G internet (btw the browser isn't that bad once you give it a day or two) over AT&T's service any day...
ReplyDeleteplus, since the droid is interfaced with google, my google calendar is automatically updated by my phone's calendar and vice versa, google search is integrated into almost every part of the phone, google maps is also integrated, as well as turn-by-turn directions to anywhere, including subway timing, and your contacts are automatically synced with your facebook friends immediately, so it imports your facebook friend list (or only those you tell it to sync with) and gives you their number, facebook pics, email, etc all in your phone's contact list, which can be imported into your computer and saved as well... and it can also hold up to 32GB of music, which is basically the amount an iphone can hold right now, right?
if you wanna give mine a spin id be happy to show you some of the tricks ive learned :)

And now for the rebuttal from an iPhone user-
ReplyDeleteYes. The service sucks. Calls will be dropped, 3G is a bit slow, and if traveling through the country prepare to be out of service. (Especially around the northwest.)
Despite these things, I live and die for my iPhone.
It's not a very practical phone, true, but it's the best handheld computer that exists right now. Recently, I had some problems with my iPhone that Apple couldn't fix. They sent me a replacement phone and I was feeling mournful over the texts messages and contacts that I hate to delete, but upon syncing my MacBook and iPhone, all of this was restored. Over one years worth of text messages found their way back onto my iPhone... Oh the drunken memories.
Also, a great phone for anyone who is tired of carrying both an iPod and a phone. But... that one is kind of obvious
