FIERCE + FASHION happens every Sunday at Justin + 6. Penned by sexy Seattle socialite and couture cutie, Andrew Hoge, this post will give you all the fashion facts any self-respecting gay should know.

It might come as a surprise that the gorgeous gentlemen involved with fashion week are not just the models – they’re the designers too! One of my favorite fashion houses is Paris-based Balmain, which appointed a fresh, young designer named Olivier Rousteing in 2011.
At the time, little was know of him except that he was young, handsome and had spent five years at Roberto Cavalli. But after the debut of his 2011 Resort collection it became obvious that he could design too!
How sexy is his accent in this video introducing Balmain’s new Facebook and Twitter pages?
Cuban + Military influences for Men’s Spring 2013.
Many of the menswear designers are messing around with shape and proportion for Spring 2013. Back when the collections debut in June, the runways were filled with voluminous silhouettes and rounded features that attempted to create a more couture feeling. Balmain was no exception as Rousteing showed a collection inspired by Havana in the 50’s.
It’s the little details that Olivier obsesses over, which make me appreciate him even more as a designer. Things like large silver buttons and clean, pleated pockets on the new Spencer jacket with rolled up sleeves. Or how about the subtle patterning around the knees on the casual-yet-forward khaki and onyx-colored pants?
In a recent interview with Style.com, Rousteing said that he wanted to “go to something more timeless” in terms of Balmain’s future designs. It will be interesting to see how he blends his own taste for classic French style with the rock ‘n roll aesthetic that Balmian had experience under Rousteing’s predecessor.
In the meantime, let’s hope he puts out more videos.
Until next week!
xx
